The Western Australian Legal Theory Association (WALTA)

The Western Australian Legal Theory Association (WALTA) is a group of academically interested lawyers, legal scholars and students. The Western Australian Legal Theory Association was founded in 2010 by Professor Augusto Zimmermann. The Association also publishes an annual law journal entitled the Western Australian Jurist.

In January 2018, the Western Australian Legal Theory Association moved from Murdoch University to its new home at Sheridan College.

The Aims of the Association

The aim of the association is to promote scholarly discussions on subjects related to legal theory, jurisprudence and contemporary issues in law.

Conditions for Admission

To be qualified to join the Association, one has to:

1. be an academic; or
2. be a law students; or
3. have taken a LLB or JD with Honours at any recognised Law School

Students who wish to apply for membership must comply with the following requisites:

1. to be at least in their second year of legal studies; and
2. to have an outstanding academic record; and
3. to have completed the unit Legal Theory (or Legal Philosophy, or Jurisprudence) with Distinction or High Distinction at any recognised Law School.

Regular Meetings

Meetings are be conducted on a regular basis by members of the Association. Each meeting will be focused on the discussion or an article or book chapter. The idea is to provide members with an opportunity to discuss legal principles, theories and issues in an enjoyable context of discussion and exchange.
